Robbie grew up in New Mexico spending her early school years in Los Alamos. She often talked about being able to take shop class as a young girl in grade school there. As she went on to become a wood worker and builder through out her life. Robbie graduated from Sandia High school in 1963 and Cosmetology school in the same year . At a time when women generally stayed at home and kept house, Robbie broke the mold. Out of school she worked in a salon, “Style O Rama” on Constitution, and went on to own the business and the property. In 1974 Robbie bought our family home on Girard and worked in the room in the front, “Robbie’s Beauty Nook”, for 4 years, all while being a great single mom to her daughter Robin. In 1978 she moved the shop into the renovated garage on the back of the property and renamed it ‘Shampoo Alley’. Later, while still operating her business and raising her child, Robbie earned a degree in Physical Education from the University of New Mexico. During the course of her studies she built a guitar as part of a course in problem solving. The led her to passionately pursue fine woodworking and instrument construction. Robbie’s love of woodworking and building led to her love of Madrid, New Mexico where she spent off time working on miner’s shacks. She eventually moved there in 1995. She spent years making Dulcimers and other musical instruments of all kinds. She attended Arts and Crafts fairs all over New Mexico, was a member of The NM Woodworkers Association and taught classes on how to build Dulcimers and door chimes. Her love of animals included Birds of all kinds, Dogs ,Cats, Horses & Donkeys. Robbie McCoy was a Daughter, a Sister, a Friend, a Wife, an Aunt, a Mother, a Mother in Law and a Grandmother. She was proud of all of these Titles and lived a Full life. Alzheimer’s disease took her from us sooner than we wanted. She was Loved dearly by many.

I fondly remember my mom, Mary Jane, taking me as a school kid to get haircuts and my first perm from Robbie! It was always fun to visit her shop, full of life and laughter. Condolences on your loss of a truly beautiful woman who loved life and her family very much.
