John A Sward

November 06, 1952 -- August 19, 2025
John peacefully returned to God on August 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved son of Gustav Helmer Sward and Maria Louisa Aguirre-Sward and grew up sharing a close bond with his sisters, Inga Escobar and Annie Scanlon. Deeply proud of his Peruvian heritage, he carried it with him throughout his life, celebrating his roots in countless meaningful ways.

Answering the call to serve his country, John dedicated 24 years to the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. His years of service shaped his character with discipline, loyalty, and honor, qualities he carried into every aspect of his life. Following his military retirement, he continued to serve through positions with the federal government, concluding his professional career with his retirement from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2018.

His greatest joy was sharing life with his cherished wife, Lynn, whose devotion and love brought him happiness beyond measure. Together, they created a life filled with adventure, laughter, and countless trips to Peru to visit family, embrace the culture, and savor the food and traditions he treasured.

John found joy in the simple and meaningful moments camping, hunting, good food, and cocktails; and he especially cherished the times spent with family, gathered together to share conversation, Fox News, and NASCAR. His daughter, Tammy Odell, was the pride and joy of his life, and he loved her with all his heart. He was a devoted grandfather to Chase, Sky, and Riyann, who brought him endless happiness and who will forever remember his warmth and love.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his daughter Tammy and her husband, Noah Odell; his grandchildren Chase, Sky, and Riyann; his mother, Maria Louisa Aguirre-Sward; and his sister, Inga Escobar. He was preceded in death by his father, Gustav Helmer Sward; his sister, Annie Scanlon; and his son, Jason Sward.

Remembered as a kind, caring, and generous gentleman, his love for family, his devotion to his heritage, his service to his country, and his dedication to his work leave a lasting legacy. His laughter, strength, and unwavering love will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

Until we meet again.
