David Xavier “X” Gutierrez
David Xavier Gutierrez or X as he was known by his friends and family passed away peacefully
in his sleep on December 1, 2024. At his request there will be no services.
Xavier was born to Lena and Moe Gutierrez on March 21, 1952, and he joins them again in their
heavenly father’s kingdom. Xavier is survived by his children, Adam Gutierrez (and wife
Elizabeth Mantone) and Roxanne Farmer (and her husband James Farmer) along with his
grandchildren Matilda Rose Gutierrez (13), Beau Jaxon Farmer (10), and Flora Anne Gutierrez
(8), the mother of his children, Lydia Gutierrez and his brothers, sister, cousins and friends who
loved him and will miss him dearly.
X was an avid outdoorsman who could often be found fishing at Tingley beach or taking his
friends from the Senior Center to Fenton Lake to fish for trout. Also a great bass fisherman, he
proudly represented New Mexico on the state’s traveling team for several tournaments.
Another beloved pastime was golfing with his brothers and he would often brag of his hole-in-
one scored on the 5 th hole of Los Altos Golf Course. When not found fishing or on the golf
course he could be found making the rounds at the various poker rooms around Albuquerque,
with the Poker Room at Sandia Casino being by far his favorite. He would often regale his
friends and family with his stories of hitting the card he needed on the river and winning the bad-
beat jackpots.
What Xavier will be most remembered for was his love and immense pride for his family and all
of their accomplishments. This pride didn’t just extend to his children and grandchildren, but to
his brothers and sister, his nieces and nephews and even family he adopted through his friends.
No accomplishment was too small, and he treated them all with equal reverence, whether it be
someone’s skill with computers, their business acumen, promotions to manager of a prestigious
resort or Lt. Commander of the Navy, to running their own business, or being an accomplished
author. His children are blessed knowing how proud he was of them and the families they made
for themselves. And it was a foregone conclusion that if you were sitting near him, and had a
pulse, he would be bragging about his grandchildren. Whether it was Matilda’s artistic talent,
Beau’s athletic prowess on the baseball field or basketball court, or Flora’s budding career in
theater, his love and pride in his grandchildren was his brightest star and you could guarantee a
giant smile plastered on his face as he spoke of their many accomplishments. He was loved
beyond measure by all that knew him and he will be missed greatly.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks those wishing to do something in remembrance of Xavier, to
make a donation to the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation® (DRWF) in Xavier’s name.

After he graduated from high school, my cousin X lived with my family in Chula Vista, California. He was a fun addition to our core group. He was always my favorite cousin until Lisa forced me to name her as such! X didn’t care one way or another. Oddly, when I moved to ABQ I saw and talked to X less than before, but he always held a special place in my heart. X was goofy and had one of the loudest laughs ever. I can still hear that thundering sound. I know that Adam and Roxy and their kids will miss him more than they can imagine, but I hope they know that he’ll always be around, just not in person. See you on the flip side, X.
