Eloisa A. Chavez, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 19, 2026 peacefully, at the University of New Mexico Hospital. She was born on November 29, 1936, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, to Manuel Alvarado and Maria Figueroa. Eloisa was their only child.
Eloisa spent her childhood and early adult years in Lordsburg, New Mexico before relocating to Belen, New Mexico. In Belen, she retired from Belen Consolidated Schools, as a beloved school bus driver.
Eloisa was known for her generous heart and creative hands. She loved quilting and crocheting, especially making tiny hats for premature and newborn babies at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Her faith was a guiding light, reflected in the many rosaries she made for her church community. A talented cook, Eloisa’s homemade tortillas, red chile enchiladas, and Spanish rice were family and friend's favorites.
She also enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Eloisa is survived by her children: Armando Martinez and his wife Karen, Ester Ortega, Jesus Lopez and his partner Misty, Jaime Lopez, Maxine Lopez, Cleo and her husband Lorenzo Gonzales Sr., Manuel Lopez Jr. and his partner Cindy, and Bartolo Chavez Jr. She is also survived by many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Alvarado and Maria Bailey; her daughter Victoria; her son-in-law Wilfredo Ortega; her grandsons Christopher Martinez and Albert Ray Lopez.
Services to honor and celebrate Eloisa's life will be held at a later date, in her hometown of Lordsburg. Urnbearer will be her grandson, Lorenzo Gonzales Jr.
Eloisa will be remembered for her faith, her generosity, and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful reflection of compassion, creativity, and principled way of living. She will be missed by all who knew her.
