Nelly Monterrubio Valdez

December 12, 1956 - August 13, 2024

Age 67

Surrounded by family, Nelly M. Valdez of Albuquerque, New Mexico went home to Jesus on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Nelly lived a life of gratefulness, very thankful that “Jesus loves me, and is Father to the fatherless.” Her loving spirit is reflected by her favorite Bible verse: “We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19”. Nelly was born in Mexico City, Mexico, immigrated to Illinois before moving to Albuquerque with her husband Greg, and their young daughter. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class at Clemente High School, in Chicago, and graduated with honors in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She is a pioneer in the Home School movement, having educated all her children starting in 1984. She has battled advanced Breast Cancer since 2001, with a final victory sealed by the removal of a ruptured, defective, unnecessary breast implant. Nelly is survived by her beloved husband Greg, 3 children, 13 grandchildren, her mother, 3 siblings and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

In remembrance of Nelly, we will hold a memorial service for her on Saturday, September 7th, at 9:30 am at at Foothills Fellowship at 12504 Candelaria Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. A reception celebrating her life will follow.

Dearest Valdez Family, we’re here to support you however we can during this difficult time. Nelly was always so supportive of others even throughout her own challenges. She was a courageous survivor, an adventurous spirit, and a generous supporter of others own struggles and ailments. I will always remember her gentleness and compassion, and especially her warm smiles and cheers as we all crossed the finish line together in solidarity. May she rest in peace and your family cherish the time you spent together.

Greg I am very sorry to learn of Nelly's passing. There are no words when losing a spouse.

Martha & Rick Heintzleman September 05, 2024

Dearest Greg & Family, We are very saddened to hear of Nelly’s death. She was a loving and caring woman and we had many happy times together taking our kids on adventures. One of my favorite memories of Nelly is when I was sitting next to her at church. I was a new Christian and I watched her as she worshipped; singing, with eyes closed, looking upward. It was a sacred and beautiful sight that I’ve always remembered. We’ll be praying for the peace of God to surround you all.
